I started to think for reasons this may be – perhaps my readers are ‘ad savvy’ and have a form of blindness to the ad content – perhaps I am providing what they need – information, and they have no need to follow my ads to get more of it.

Someone suggested to me that I should leave articles I write ‘hanging’ so that the reader feels compelled to look at the ads to find more information – not a bad idea, but it goes against the ethos of this blog to an extent. If you have problem in showing adsense ads into your directory (that uses Smarty templates), you simply don’t manage to make your adsense ads to show up, you need to insert your adsense code between these tags: {literal} and {/literal}. You don’t have to think on modifying your php files, or others, the solution is more simple.

In this way your adsense code will not be interpreted by the smarty engine, but it will be interpreted by the browser at loading time.

I have tried to setup an adsense add on my directory, in my categories pages, on

my submit page, but couldn’t manage to display it in either page.

So, in any of your templates, either main.tpl. header.tpl, footer.tpl. submit.tpl. etc, you need to insert those tags ({literal} and {/literal}) in order to properly setup adsense ads:

Some Brief History about me….

I’ve always been extremely eager to learn about all of the ways you can make money from the internet.

WRONG … Back then, I, like most other people, thought that’s the way it all worked, or I obviously wouldn’t have spent to much time and effort on those keywords.

While I did have #1 rankings for nearly every single major keyword related to the aquarium supplies industry and it was bringing in over 10,000 visitors to my dinky little website PER DAY, the conversion rate (i.e. the amount of sales I made per visitor) was ridiculously low.

I sold roughly 1 product for every 1,000 people that came to my site.

That’s a .1% conversion rate. You heard me right, “point one percent”.

If you don’t know what a good conversion rate is, let me just say that you should never have below a 1 percent conversion rate, let alone a .1 percent. Getting 1,000 visitors to your site per day takes a heck of a lot of work….

I’ve been on the trial of new ideas and methods to increase my own Google Adsense earnings.

As I did the research I came across some strange realizations about myself. Some of the simple and easy web site amendments I’d forgotten to implement. This threw up a question mark over my own ability to remember. I laughed and realized that hopefully such foolish errors shouldn’t happen again

A few simple ideas that came to mind, that so often I had forgotten were these:

When constructing an Adsense web page, it is always best to start with the keyword or phrase that you’re intending to use, and use it in 6 important places. Google considers these six important areas when deciding which adsense ads to display upon your site.

With that in mind, we don’t want irrelevant adverts being used upon our websites do we? Otherwise nobody will click on them. What’s the likelihood of someone clicking on a ‘Property For Sale in Italy’ when they are looking for a property in London? Here are those 6 important considerations that Google use…

Priority one – is to use the key word in the website page name ‘cum’ extension. Don’t use for example – yourwebsite.com/page003.html – it should be – yourwebsite.com/your-key-word.html.

Priority two – is to use the word or word phrase in the html ‘title’ meta tags. That is Adsense Secrets. In Microsoft Front Page every new web page built is initially given by default, a meta tag of – New Page 1. This needs to very specifically your word or word phrase only.

Whilst we are on meta tags I’ll mention ‘Priority 6′, albeit out of order. The key description has been abused in the past where people have been adding 200 keywords in the tag area. Priority four – making your Google-Key bold. Your Google-Key or phrase density should be between 2 to 5%; any more than that and you may be accused of spamming your Google-Key. On a page with a 1,000 words, I would say that making every keyword bold maybe too much. Just make the first two mentions of it bold, and then the very last mention bold.

Priority five – making you keywords either italic or underlined. Intermingled with the bold it is good to italicize sometimes and underline another.

(Note: For readers… My density for the word ‘keyword’ was too high for this article, so I’ve used slight variations. Proof if you ever needed it that too many mentions of one word or phrase could be considered as spam).
