How to be top link of a Google search?

   The way google works (I think) is that the sites with the most relation to the keywords AND the most links comes up first in the list – so if a whole bunch of people put links on the web to your dad’s site, it’ll come up first in a search list. This ensures the most popular sites are listed first.

   To be on the top at the Google generic search result on certain keyword of your choice, in a nut shell you need to:
   1. First of all, your website need to be search engine friendly: only use valid tag, do not use too many flash or image, you have sitemap, no broken link, etc.

   2. Optimized the web page for that keyword. I.e: keyword on the title, header, meta, start of content, middle of content and end of content but need to be natural and not excessive. Surely the content need to be consistent with the keyword.

   3. Get as many ‘backlink’ as possible, i.e: other website put hyperlink pointing to your website. The best is one way link: that website pointing to yours and there is no link from yours to that website (hence, there is little point of ‘swapping link’ with other webmaster). But quality over quantity. For example if you have 1 link from popular site , say cnn.com, that worth many many more than link from unknown site.

   All three factors above are a must, especially if your keyword is a popular one (you have many competitors)

   The most difficult one is no 3. But there are plenty ways to get more backlink such as: creating article, pay for advertising, doing press release, active in related topic forum with your link signature, doing blog, creating facebook /myspace /youtube page, bookmarking, etc.

   To do this you have to visit Google webmaster tools and submit your site to different search engines. and also to dmoz directory

   submitt your site to number of good directories such as http://www.sumodirectory.com which have free as well as paid links there you could also find addresses of other good directories and just submitt on maximum directories with all the keywords.
